Zombiethon Day 2 – “I Walked With A Zombie” by Roky Erickson

This wonderful slice of psychedelia dropped into my life by way of the criminally underrated Alice Donut who delivered a slightly more upbeat version on their aptly-titled ‘Pure Acid Park’ LP. Roky’s original from the 60’s influenced garage/psychrock album ‘The Evil One (Plus One)’ is more subdued but  can nonetheless still find itself trapped in your head on repeat. He’s something of an odd duck is Roky – pop melodies given a heavier tinge, much in the same vein of The Misfits, but laced with a heavy dose of paranoia and melancholy to such an extent that I’m not sure whether it’s part of his schtick or he’s actually haunted by demons. The darker side of his personality takes a rest in this tune however, the simple one-line refrain an ode to a fondly remembered moonlit stroll with the undead. Beautiful stuff really.

Enjoy “I Walked With A Zombie”, then go and download the movie it’s named after 🙂

  2. Nice one. I’d not come across Roky Erickson before. Methinks I shall have to remedy that. I think I’ve managed to match the mood pretty well, though.

Incidentally, nice to see you’re a fellow William Gibson fan!
