In space, no-one can hear you scream…

…unless it’s space itself that’s doing the screaming!

A team of NASA astronomers have been probing the darkest recesses of space for radio signals which are chucked out willy-nilly by all sorts of cosmic objects (like the sun for example). However they found more than they baragined for and it seems that the cosmos is actually roaring – a signal was detected which is six times louder (actually it’s technically brighter) than all other sources in the entire univers put together. This has completely stumped the boffins – “”We really don’t know what it is,”said team member Michael Seiffert of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.”

But what do they know? Let’s examine the evidence. First off it’s a really loud roaring, the sort of noise a hideous, indescribable creature would make if it was angry, hungry, or had just woken up. Secondly, these are radio waves which means they originated a long time ago (yes, in a galaxy far, far away) so the source could be said to be ancient. Hmm, it’s ancient, hungry and just awoken. Remind you of anyone…?

I, for one, welcome our new Ancient Overlords…
